Prologue

Flashes of brilliant lightning ripped through the dark clouds, occasionally outshone by dazzling glares from rising flames, bolstering the clouds with smoke. Power seemed to hang in the air. In amongst the flashes of lightning and fire the clash of metal against metal could be heard.

Swooping through the clouds a phoenix flew darting and diving on vicious attacks. On occasion it shot forth flames from its beak, or else used its great wings to drive the flames to further intensity. A cry emitted from its beak as it beat its wings to fly higher before diving down among the battle once more.

In the midst, armour battered and blood flowing freely from many wounds stood a lone fighter. At his feet lay broken blades and dead bodies, some burnt others killed by the blades in his hands that were being used so skillfully.

Without warning the phoenix gave a shrill pained shriek starting to fall from the sky towards the charred and splintered land beneath it. Suddenly its body burst into flames the sheer intensity of the heat eclipsing that even of the cloud-dimmed sun. From the death of the proud bird a great astronomical phenomenon started, something seen every 100 years without fail; a comet struck to life by the heat and turbulence released.

The fighting and powers released increased until suddenly the ground itself gave a pained shriek and the air seemed to roar in anger. A blinding light eclipsed the area even as darkness descended about the entire world. As both cleared the only sign of the battle was the corpses of those who had fallen, and the splintered buckled land, the harsh lines highlighted by the sun that had finally pierced the dark clouds, blackened by the sheer force of powers unleashed. The planet was devoid of life - its ability to sustain life stripped away until the planet itself recovered from the wounds dealt upon it.

Apart from dented armour bearing the phoenix emblem there were no signs of the warrior who had stood previously fighting the threat. There were also no Gods. A new Pantheon slowly starting to form as beliefs changed.  Many wars were fought over the correct religions to follow. Cultures died to be replaced by new ones, and the universe itself was in a state of chaos.

As a new pantheon emerged the universe settled into a state of peace. On a small planetary outpost a remarkable event occured. The birth of one who bore one quarter of a circle. The symbol depicted within that of fire. Fate had marked this babe before his birth.
